A Hotel in Madrid Spain has been built entirely out of rubbish.
The structure stands in the central Plaza de Callao as part of the city’s hosting of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).
The five bedroom hotel was designed by German Designer Ha Schult
The walls of the Garbage Hotel was collected from beaches in Europe from rubbish being deposited by the tide, also waist found from dumps and bought from flea markets.
Ha Schult designed the hotel to bring awareness of oceanic waist his aim of the Garbage hotel is draw attention to the massive amount of waist generated by mass tourism in Europe
Schult said “I created the Beach Garbage Hotel because the oceans of our planet are the biggest garbage dump,” he told the AFP news agency.
30% to 40% of the objects found for the walls of the temporary guesthouse were found on beaches in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Rose Piqueras, a spokeswoman for the International Tourism Fair project, said the hotels aim was to show something contrasting to the pictures painted by the tourism industry.
“We wanted to show what our holidays could become if we don’t clean our beaches,” she said, adding that the beaches of southern Italy were worst
This is a project close to my heart I live in a popular coastal town in the UK and it saddens me to see how much rubbish is left by irresponsible individuals that visit my town each year, the things you find on beaches after the so called tourists have gone (I like to call them Chav’s no matter what class of people they are) The dirty nappies, empty beer cans and other items would make your stomach turn are littered across the beach.
These silly little people seem to think the authority can clean it up yet if they took a step back and saw the amount of rubbish left over a vast amount of ground they would soon realise that it is a loosing battle for the seaside community
Our local park also gets hit hard from discarded rubbish by tourists :(
If people knew the truth they would never go paddling in the sea again with the amount of discarded fishing lines with sharp hooks and broken glass the is on the beach.
The strange thing is the tourists come to seaside towns throughout the world for the clean environment yet they are hell bent on ruining it from a simple case of excessive laziness.
Their are close to (I believe) 8 Billion humans on this planet if we don’t start doing our bit soon the whole world will become a garbage Dump.
The discarded rubbish gets washed out to sea, harms wildlife off the coast and get washed onto other beaches through out the world.
The sea has become a rotating garbage tombola taking rubbish from one shore to be deposited onto another.
And to think it doesn’t have to be this way if people just carried their rubbish off the beach to the nearest bin it could all be avoided :(
How do I book to stay in this place for one night?
